Meeting with Jess - W12
I met with Jess in the foundation studio space today and we discussed what needed to be done to prepare for the workshop. Jess placed a large emphasis on the Instagram promotion, she suggested that starting from now, I should post on the @zinestaffs Instagram every day until the workshop. Moreover, we discussed that in the first session we should do some sort of ice breaker task before we start making the zines to get everyone comfortable with sharing and creating. Jess suggested we have the participants make a mini-zine each using some ready-made prompts she already had and used last year. Additionally, we discussed each session having a theme. The first session would be an introduction to zines, the second would be an introduction to the risograph and the final session would be the making of the pages. Jess also mentioned again that she would like Will to be involved. I am going to meet up with him next week and I think I'll try and include him in the first session, as he has experience in making a zine before.
The final thing Jess and I spoke about was regarding the 'safeguarding' of the sessions. She suggested that at the beginning of the session we make a little speech about how we will be taking photos in the session which might be used on Instagram and how they can ask to not be in the photos. Moreover, due to the nature of the theme, we may talk about sensitive topics and it's important to make clear that participants can leave at any time and participate as much or little as they want to. I will take this on board and prepare myself a script of sorts for how the sessions might go and what I will say. As I am still pretty anxious I think this will help me feel more in control of the session and less nervous as I will know what to say. After talking to Jess I started planning out some Instagram posts and making sure that I have something to post every day that I need to.
