Tutorial in the Studio with Anna - W5
This week in the studio, we had 1-2-1 tutorials in our studio spaces with Anna. I have decided that for this placement module, I want to make a zine, a self-published, unique work of minority interest, so I brought this up in my tutorial. Anna suggested that since I was interested in making a zine: I take advantage of the visiting artist for this week, Rachael House, and request a tutorial with her to learn more about making a zine. I believe that this is a great suggestion and could help me gain more knowledge about what zines are and how to produce one.
Moreover, we talked about my idea to produce the zine in collaboration with AirSpace Gallery. Anna suggested that I make first contact with Air Space as soon as possible to ask about what topics might be of interest to the gallery. Additionally, Anna also gave me some helpful ideas of how to pitch the zine to AirSpace. The zine would be a good collaboration between AirSpace and the University. The content could be made by Staffordshire University students creating new connections between artists and the gallery. This could be done using the 'call-out' method Moreover, the zine would be making use of AirSpace's brand-new resource, the Risograph printer, and advertising it. I could also make the partnership more appealing to AirSpace by suggesting that: as part of the placement, I would, for an agreed amount of time, become an assistant to artists on residency at AirSpace. The only problem with this, however, is that I am worried about committing to too much as I also work part-time and ultimately I don't want the quality of my placement to suffer if I take on too much.
