Meeting with Jess - W10
On the 15th of December, I had my first meeting with Jess regarding the planning of the Zine Project Workshop. We discussed my proposal and what needed to be changed to fit the planning already done by Jess and the structure of the Innovation Week timetable. Instead of two two-hour sessions, we will have three two-hour sessions, one day after another. Jess has sent me over the planning documents she has sent to the organisers of Innovation Week for me to look over. Moreover, Jess has given me access to last year's PowerPoint, introducing zines, for me to reference and potentially adapt. I have also been asked to think about making an equipment list as Jess has been provided with a budget for the printing and materials. Additionally, I have to make a plan for the promotion of the workshop and ask Will for access to the @zinestaffs Instagram. I should start marketing the workshop right away to build anticipation for the workshop. Jess also mentioned that it might be a good idea to get Will involved with the workshop as he has experience in printing a zine using the risograph, which is a complicated process. It was also mentioned that I could book a demo of the risograph machine for the workshop by the Print Bureau and potentially have one of the workshop sessions in the Print Bureau. This would also be useful when explaining to the participants about sticking to a colour limit as Jess explained that printing with more than 3 colours would be too complicated for us to handle. Jess brought up that there is the challenge of not knowing how many people will participate in the workshop and to bear in mind that people might not come to all three sessions. We should expect around 30 people however, realistically we might only get 10 to 15 people per session. Finally, Jess suggested that the poster should include 2 to 3 sentences on the poster to describe the workshop.
My overall thoughts after our meeting are that I feel a lot of pressure to get everything planned in time as the workshop is just over a month away, including Christmas break. I feel anxious about the work that has to be done however, I feel that it is manageable thanks to the support of Jess. I am grateful and relieved that I do not have to completely run the workshop by myself. We've planned to have our next meeting in early January. In the meantime, I want to work on making a PowerPoint presentation, promotional material such as posters and Instagram posts, and booking the risograph demo from the Print Bureau.
